Dear Grizzlies!

This is Mrs. Barreto-Romero with your weekly updates for Sunday August 15th. We hope you are enjoying your last few days of summer and we can’t wait to see you all tomorrow for Meet the Teacher between 3:30 and 5:30 pm! 

1. Meet the Teacher: please join us in person on Monday August 16th between 3:30-5:30 pm to meet your child’s teacher, drop off school supplies, and ask any questions you may have. Here’s what you need to know:

   1. The district has approved very limited events in which parents can enter the building; Meet the teacher is one of them. We strongly encourage all families to attend this event as this may be your only opportunity to enter the building this year. 

   2. Additionally, this is a good time to drop off school supplies so that your child doesn’t have a super heavy backpack on the first day of school. 

   3. View the attached map to see where your child’s classroom is located and which entrance you will use. Families will only be allowed to enter and exit the building where their child’s classroom is located.

   4. We are asking that only parents and students attend Meet the Teacher. Due to the rise in covid cases we are being extra cautious and limiting who can enter the building.

   5. As you arrive to Meet the Teacher, staff will be ready with class lists to help you find out who your child’s teacher will be. Then we will direct you to the appropriate entrance.

   6. When you enter the classroom it is very important that you fill out the Sign-In sheet with the time you arrive and the time you leave.

   7. Please be sure to tell your child’s teacher how your child will be getting home the first week of school.

   8. If you need school supplies, Ms. Melanie, our Parent Support Specialist, will be available to help you.

2. iPads and Chromebooks: here is our plan for distributing devices to new students, virtual students, 3rd grade students, and students who need a new device due to repairs.

   1. Virtual students: Any virtual student who needs to trade-in their device due to it needing repair or any 3rd grade VIRTUAL students who need to trade their iPad for a Chromebook can do so daily from 8-9 am with Ms. Melanie. If that time does not work, you can make an appointment with Ms. Melanie by calling 512-841-0618. Please remember to also turn in the charger.

   2. NEW in-person students to Galindo will receive their new device (iPad or Chromebook) during the first week of school, in their classroom.

   3. Returning Galindo students who need repair of their device and need to swap out for a new one should bring back the device and charger, report the issue to the teacher and the teacher will get a replacement for the students.

   4. Returning in-person 3rd grade students will bring their iPad and charger to school and will be given a chromebook and charger by Thursday or Friday. If a student forgets their iPad or charger then they will have to wait until they bring it back to get the chromebook.

3. First Day of School: Tuesday August 17th is the first day of school. On the first day the doors will open at 7:15 am and your child will go directly to his/her classroom. We will have all staff helping students find their classroom. Please remember, parents are NOT allowed in the building this year. 

   1. The bell schedule has changed by a few minutes this year. The day begins officially at 7:40 am and ends at 3:10 pm. Students who arrive after 7:40 will be counted tardy. 

   2. After the first day of school the doors will open at 7:05 am and students will sit in designated areas until their teacher picks them up at 7:30 am.

4. School Supplies: here is our school supply list for this year organized by grade level. If your family needs help with school supplies you can reach out to our new Parent Support Specialist, Melanie Wright, at 512-841-0618. She returns to work on Tuesday, August 10th and will have supplies available to distribute upon request.

5. Health & Safety Updates: this past week the district released some updated health and safety protocols now that we are back in Stage 5. Here is what you need to know:

   1. We will inform you if there is a positive case of covid at Galindo.

   2. We will conduct contact tracing to find out who was in close contact with the positive case.

   3. Families should keep sick children at home.

   4. All classrooms will be equipped with an air filtration machine.

   5. All student desks and tables will have plastic barriers/dividers installed.

   6. Masks are now REQUIRED for everyone on campus

   7. We will maintain 3 feet of social distance when feasible and avoid intermingling of classes.

   8. We will NOT conduct temperature checks or require families to show their green check from the Covid Screen & Go app. 

   9. We ask that all parents use their best judgement, screen your children at home, and keep your children at home if they are sick or showing any covid symptoms.

6. Visitors & Families on Campus: at this time, parents, families, and visitors are NOT allowed inside the school building. We will continue to implement our curbside service or meet you at the front door. This means that beginning on the first day of school, parents must say goodbye to their children from their vehicles or outside the main entrance. We will have all staff helping students find their classrooms. However, if you would like to bring in your child’s school supplies and meet their teacher ahead of time, we encourage you to do so at our Meet the Teacher Event.

¡Queridos Grizzlies!

Soy Ms. Sanders con sus noticias semanales para el domingo 15 de agosto. Esperamos que estén disfrutando de sus últimos días de verano y no podemos esperar a verlos a todos mañana para conocer al maestro entre las 3:30 y las 5:30 pm. 

1. Conocer al maestro: por favor, únanse a nosotros en persona el lunes 16 de agosto entre las 3:30 y las 5:30 pm para conocer al maestro/a de su hijos, dejar los útiles escolares, y hacer cualquier pregunta que puedan tener. Esto es lo que necesitan saber:

   1. El distrito ha aprobado eventos muy limitados en los que los padres pueden entrar al edificio; Conocer al maestro es uno de ellos. Animamos a todas las familias a asistir a este evento, ya que pueden ser su única oportunidad de entrar en el edificio este año. 

   2. Además, este es un buen momento para dejar los útiles escolares para que sus hijos no tengan una mochila súper pesada el primer día de clases. 

   3. Vean el mapa adjunto para ver dónde se encuentra el salón de sus hijos y qué entrada van a utilizar. Las familias sólo podrán entrar y salir del edificio donde se encuentra el salón de sus hijos.

   4. Pedimos que sólo los padres y los estudiantes asistan al Conocer al maestro. Debido al aumento de los casos de covid, estamos siendo muy cuidadosos y limitando quién puede entrar al edificio.

   5. Cuando lleguen al Conocer al maestro, el personal estará listo con listas de clases para ayudarles a saber quién será el maestro de sus hijos. Entonces les guiaremos a la entrada apropiada.

   6. Cuando entren al salón de clases es muy importante que llenen la hoja de registro con la hora de llegada y la hora de salida.

   7. Por favor, asegúrense de decirle al maestro de sus hijos como llegarán a casa la primera semana de clases.

   8. Si necesitan los útiles escolares, Ms. Melanie, nuestra especialista de apoyo para padres, estará disponible para ayudarles.

2. iPads y Chromebooks: aquí está nuestro plan para distribuir dispositivos a los nuevos estudiantes, estudiantes virtuales, estudiantes de 3er grado y estudiantes que necesitan un nuevo dispositivo debido a reparaciones.

   1. Estudiantes virtuales: Cualquier estudiante virtual que necesite cambiar su dispositivo debido a que necesita reparación o cualquier estudiante VIRTUAL de 3er grado que necesite cambiar su iPad por un Chromebook puede hacerlo diariamente de 8 a 9 am con Ms. Melanie. Si ese horario no funciona, pueden hacer una cita con Ms. Melanie llamando al 512-841-0618. Por favor, recuerden también entregar el cargador.

   2. Los nuevos estudiantes de Galindo recibirán su nuevo dispositivo (iPad o Chromebook) durante la primera semana de clases, en su salón.

   3. Los estudiantes que regresan a Galindo que necesitan reparar su dispositivo y necesitan cambiarlo por uno nuevo deben traer el dispositivo y el cargador, reportar el problema al maestro y el maestro obtendrá un recambio para los estudiantes.

   4. Los estudiantes de 3er grado que regresen en persona traerán su iPad y cargador a la escuela y se les dará un Chromebook y cargador el jueves o viernes. Si un estudiante olvida su iPad o cargador entonces tendrá que esperar hasta que lo traiga de vuelta para obtener el chromebook.

3. Primer día de clases: El martes 17 de agosto es el primer día de clases. Las puertas se abrirán a las 7:15 am y su hijo/a irá directamente a su salón. Tendremos a todo el personal ayudando a los estudiantes a encontrar su salón. Por favor, recuerden que los padres NO están permitidos en el edificio este año. 

   1. El horario del timbre ha cambiado unos minutos este año. El día comienza oficialmente a las 7:40 am y termina a las 3:10 pm. Los estudiantes que lleguen después de las 7:40 serán contados como tarde. 

   2. Después del primer día de clases las puertas se abrirán a las 7:05 am y los estudiantes se sentarán en áreas designadas hasta que su maestro los recoja a las 7:30 am.

4. Útiles escolares: aquí está nuestra lista de útiles escolares. Si su familia necesita ayuda con los útiles escolares pueden comunicarse con nuestra nueva especialista de apoyo para padres, Melanie Wright, al 512-841-0618. Ella regresa al trabajo el martes, 10 de agosto y tendrá útiles disponibles para distribuir a pedido.

5. Actualizaciones de salud y seguridad: esta semana pasada el distrito publicó algunos protocolos de salud y seguridad actualizados ahora que estamos de vuelta en la Etapa 5. Esto es lo que necesitan saber:

1. Sí les informamos si hay un caso positivo de covid en Galindo.

2. Sí llevamos a cabo un proceso de rastreo de contactos.

3. Las familias deben mantener a los niños enfermos en casa.

4. Todas las aulas estarán equipadas con una máquina de filtración de aire.

5. Todos los escritorios y mesas de los estudiantes tendrán divisores de plástico.

6. Las mascarillas ya son requeridas para todos que están en el campus.

7. Mantenemos 3 pies de distancia social cuando sea posible y evitamos que se mezclen las clases.

8. NO hacemos chequeos de temperatura ni requerimos que las familias muestren su marca verde de la aplicación Covid Screen & Go. 

9. Les pedimos a todos los padres que usen su mejor juicio, que revisen a sus hijos en casa y que mantengan a sus hijos en casa si están enfermos o muestran algún síntoma de Covid.

6.  Visitantes y familias en el campus: en este momento, los padres, las familias y los visitantes NO están permitidos dentro del edificio de la escuela. Continuaremos implementando nuestro servicio de acera o de encuentro en la puerta principal. Esto significa que a partir del primer día de clases, los padres deben despedirse de sus hijos desde sus vehículos o fuera de la entrada principal. Tendremos a todo el personal ayudando a los estudiantes a encontrar sus aulas. Sin embargo, tendremos la oportunidad de entrar al edificio para el evento Conozca al maestro.
