Weekly Announcements for Sept. 8th

Dear Galindo Grizzlies,

This is Ms. Barreto-Romero with you weekly reminders for Sept. 8th.

  1. Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held this week from September 9th through the 13th. The book fair will open on Monday afternoon and will remain open Tuesday- Friday 7:30a-3:15p. All proceeds support our library. We have let students know that we will call home to make sure they have permission to spend anything over $20.

  2. We will also begin taking nominations for our Gifted and Talented program this week. Parents can nominate their children in 3rd-5th grade for our GT program by submitting the parent nomination form that is attached to this email and on our website. Please turn in all forms to Ms. Sanders.

  3. This week is also Coordinated School Health (CSH) Kick-Off Week. CSH is a collaborative effort of advancing student academic performance by promoting, practicing, and coordinating school health education and services for the benefit and well-being of ALL students. To celebrate this week, we will have a special assembly on Tuesday, September 10th from Jump with Jill, a registered dietician who will teach us the importance of eating healthy and exercising.

  4. Tuesday evening we will host a meeting put on by S.A.F.E. Austin for Everyone, a community advocacy group working on creating safe conditions in our Galindo neighborhood. They have invited Mayor Adler and he has accepted the invitation. All parents and community members are welcome to attend from 6:30-8:30p in our school cafeteria.

  5. On Thursday, September 12th, we will have a “bad weather drill” during the school day. Students will practice keeping themselves safe in the event of inclement weather. In the evening, we will have our Back to School Night from 5:30-7:00p. The book fair will stay open late on this day and we will be selling pizza by the slice and drinks. Our new 2019-2020 Galindo t-shirts will be on sale for $10.00 a shirt. This year we will not have a general session in the cafeteria at the start of back to school night, so you can walk directly back to your child’s classrooms starting at 5:30p.

  6. Friday, September 13th we will celebrate the Star Spangled Banner’s birthday during morning assembly. Wear your red, white, and blue!

Thank you and have a great week!
